Happy Mother’s Day to my mum, Nanette.
Born a country girl, in a border town, with thick and curly hair,
she earned herself a scholarship and found her dramatic flair.
Her job in advertising took her interstate where she met a certain guy…
…they decided to exchange their vows beneath a sweltering Brisbane sky.
They packed up their lives and moved down south, to Sydney’s glorious coastline,
where the job of raising me (and a sister too) made her life divine… (I’m assuming)
Mum was there through thick and thin, and those awkward up and down years,
she listened and smiled and offered hankies for any type of tears.
She shone at my wedding, as only she could,
and welcomed me home when it ended for good.
She later became a Grandmother, a role suiting her to a tee.
She’s offered up some parenting advice, much of it for free…
She saw me return to school when I was a mother too,
and then again attended my wedding, yes, that would be #2.
I moved away to a different state, and this was not by choice,
so in between visits to my old home town, I get to hear her voice (on the phone).
We took her on a cruise on board a stately Cunard Queen,
We saw some wonders of the world and made memories in between.
Mum has played so many roles, and directed many plays,
Her best role yet, is that of my Mum, so here’s all my love and praise.
